Speaking another language is very important in our society today. Whether you go on vacation or apply for a job, a second language is essential. Because of this, some people believe that children should begin learning a foreign language as soon as they start school. Others disagree. In my view,doing so would be a huge waste of time for both the student and teacher for two important reasons.

I believe learning of a foreign language for all students should be compulsory at all primary schools. I would like to highlight the advantages it will have and the potential benefits it will offer if the teaching is made mandatory. In primary school students actually get the chance to learn new and variety of subjects.

So, they end up not taking foreign language classes in school. But students don’t know how valuable that second language is. Students should be required to take a foreign language because they can increase their cognitive skills, communicate with more people, and increase the chance of getting employed.

However, students have other subjects to learn rather than foreign language that is an imperative course in the educational curriculum and has a larger priority than any other subjects. When students learn compulsory foreign languages in school, they will have to be study these subjects less and less.

Learning a second language is unproductive and a veritable waste of time. At long last I have come to my senses. After years expounding and arguing about the benefits of learning foreign tongues I have come to realize the truth and seen the light. I intone the mea culpa and offer my apologies. Allow me, if you will, to explain the rationale behind my about-face on the matter.

Reasons Why Children Should Learn a Foreign Language. In the modern era, where the internet has provided the gateway to the whole world, where the advancement in communication has reached higher peaks and where social media has invaded almost everyone’s lives, it has become imperative for every being to know at least one foreign language.

Importantly, four-year program of learning a foreign language in school will have a great positive impact on development of diversity and inclusion as young people will better understand other languages and cultures, which is essential for the highly diverse US society (see fig. 1).

As you begin to learn a second language, you’ll find that the acquisition techniques you’re using can be applied to learning additional languages as well. The positive cognitive effects of learning to speak a second language can train the brain to analyze and process different linguistic structures.
